About Susan

Susan Barker is an award-winning novelist. Her most recent novel, The Incarnations (2014), was a New York Times Notable Book of 2015, a Kirkus Reviews Top Ten Fiction Book of 2015, winner of a Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize, and short-listed for the Kirkus Prize.

As a Royal Literary Fund Fellow at Leeds Trinity University (2010–12), Susan worked with students and staff across all disciplines to improve their academic writing. Susan was also a Writing Fellow at Manchester University’s Centre for New Writing (2015), where she offered feedback and supervision to students on the Creative Writing BA, MA and PhD.

Susan is an experienced workshop facilitator in creative writing, academic writing and professional writing skills. Her workshops are designed to help participants tap into their creativity to become stronger, more confident writers.
