Sophia gained her PhD in Italian Literature from the University of Cambridge and was a strategy consultant at McKinsey & Co for four years, before working in the private and public sector as a knowledge manager. She then went on to write nine novels and one non-fiction book for teenagers, winning the Times/Chicken House award for Threads in 2009 and the Romantic Novel of the Year award for Love Song in 2017. Her books have been translated into over a dozen languages.
A visiting lecturer in creative writing at City University in London, Sophia has delivered writing courses and workshops around the country. For two years she was the RLF Fellow at St George’s University of London (SGUL), where her work with medical students fostered her interest in writing engagingly about science. This resulted in her ‘Writing Science’ workshop, developed for MRes students at SGUL.
Sophia enjoys building students’ confidence by giving them the tools to approach writing tasks without fear. She is also interested in collaborating with departments to share best practice in delivering feedback and enhancing writing skills.
