About James

James has written four critically acclaimed novels, all published by Faber & Faber, as well as prize-winning non-fiction, journalism, plays, and radio and TV documentaries for the BBC. This varied experience has given him a particular interest in voice and narrative structure: i.e., in finding the most logical way to present an argument, and helping the reader to follow it.

James was Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the Universities of Exeter (2010–12) and Bath (2012–13). He has also given workshops and seminars at the University of Essex, the British Museum, the Museum of London and the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris, as well as appearing at film and literary festivals in Britain, Europe and the United States.
