Geoff is a professional writer and editor. He was RLF Writing Fellow at the University of Dundee (2012–15), coaching students from first year to PhD, as well as members of staff. Geoff works as a development editor for academic books on education. He also facilitates a creative writing workshop First Lines. He has written over 40 published books: recent non-fiction titles include children’s books What is a Myth?, What is a Folktale?, The Shang Dynasty of Ancient China and adult trade title Jack the Ripper.
Geoff has a passion for writing, and loves to encourage young people, students and professionals to lose their writing inhibitions. Whether it is during a one-to-one session or a group workshop, Geoff likes to provide a suitable setting for participants to relax and learn. By treating workshops more like play, he believes that trainees are more likely to learn.
He designs workshops with a clear focus on good writing, using memorable activities so that participants not only enjoy learning, but also remember what they have learned. He helps participants gain confidence with their writing, at work or for their studies, but the sessions can also help them to begin to find their own voice.
