Babs is a prize-winning author and has written five novels and many short stories and articles.
As a lecturer in English and Creative Writing she supervised MA students’ dissertations. Her work in Learning Development encompassed academic writing, active learning, reflection and preparing presentations.
She has taught in mainstream and special schools, and has extensive experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Her skills as a professional writer have informed her teaching which focuses on critical thinking, research, style and structure. Improved communication skills have transformed the work of her students in both the academic and therapeutic environment.
She was a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund at the University of Plymouth (2007-2009). She runs young writing squads for the South West Literature Development Agency and creative writing workshops for young offenders, gifted and talented and disaffected young people. Her skill as a presenter and understanding of the powerful effect of the group dynamic enliven her workshops. She is a lector for the Royal Literary Fund, facilitating a reading group for adolescents with acute mental health issues. Babs co-facilitated the pilot of the immersive essay writing workshops at the University of Plymouth and is a mentor for the RLF Consultant Fellowship programme. .
